Catcliffe Holiday Cottage lies in the attractive Derbyshire market town of Bakewell in the heart of the Peak District. The National Park was the first to be established in the UK in 1951. The Peak District is easily accessible from several large cities such as Sheffield, Derby and Manchester, and it therefore attracts many families and outdoor enthusiasts year-round. It is an area of great natural beauty, with its limestone dales and peat-covered moorlands.
Whilst your are staying at Catcliffe Holiday Cottage you must try the famous and unique Bakewell Puddings. Monday is market day and there are pretty riverside walks. The centre boasts an indoor swimming pool, a supermarket and a large number of cafes, pubs and restaurants.
Catcliffe Holiday Cottage is the perfect home-from-home self-catering base from which to visit the many stately homes and historic houses in and around the Peak District. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are only a 15 minute drive away. Derbyshire is a walkers paradise. There are lovely walks close by down Lathkill Dale, Bradford Dale, Dove Dale and along Stanage, Froggatt and Calver Edges. Cycle routes follow stunning countryside along the nearby Monsal Trail. There are several cycle hire centres, such as Parsley Hay, nearby, with many cycling routes following pretty disused Peak District railway lines.
Horseriding, rock climbing, hang gliding and hot-air ballooning are available close by. Water sports are also well catered for at Carsington Water.
There are many family attractions, such as the Peak Rail steam trains just a 10 minute ride away, The Heights of Abraham in the popular spa town of Matlock Bath, the National Tramway Museum, the famous Alton Towers and the show caves, including the Blue John and Trek Cliff Caverns, near Castleton, and Poole’s Cavern in the spa town of Buxton.
Bakewell has an excellent Tourist Information Centre in the centre of the town, where you can check out forthcoming special events, which take place all year round The annual Bakewell Agricultural Show in August always attracts lots of visitors. The area has been used for many film locations, such as nearby Chatsworth House, and you may wish to visit some of these major film and TV sites during your stay with us.
